The Kiota Dream

SPACE, SELF-SUSTAINABILITY AND SELF-RELIANCE

We started to develop The Kiota Dream in 2015. Kiota Children’s Support Center is since 2012 a rented house in which the children, employees, visitors and volunteers come together. This causes quite some chaos, because they're all in each other's way. Next to that is a rented place a risco, because when the owner wants his house back, we need to get out. Further, we want to achieve more with visie the focus on our vision for which we need more space.

Layout of the area

As a result of the above advantages in relation to a rental place, we wnt to build 3 family houses with 8 children and a housemother, and maybe a housefather. In this way we imitate a Kenya family life as much as possible and can each child get the needed personal attention.

A child may legally be cared for for a maximum of 3 years. In the meantime, the social workers and psychologist ensure that the family is ready to welcome the child back into the family.

In addition to the family homes, we want to build an office building, a general covered outdoor area (shade), a volunteer house, a manager's house, a community training center and guesthouse. We want to keep enough land on the rest of the site to grow fruit and vegetables for Kiota and to keep (small) livestock.

Community Training Center & Guesthouse

'Self-reliance' is what we want to teach the children and families. In the form of the well-known 'Don't give a fish, but a fishing rod to learn to take care of yourself', we want to provide the families of the children and the community with all kinds of training in the community training center that is being built. A great mission if we can achieve this on our site at The Kiota Dream! They will be given tools to take care of themselves and learn certain subjects with which they can earn their own money. This allows them to buy healthy food, a stable house, beds and mattresses, clothing and other things, such as water and electricity. This will allow more families to care for their children.

The guesthouse is a way to generate income. The children can also find a place to gain work experience here if they are following an education.

Four phases

Since it is quite a large project, we divide it into 4 phases.

Phase 1 is the fencing of the plot of land, the construction of 3 family houses and the necessary facilities such as drilling a well, installing electricity and septic tanks. We also want the facility to be ready so that the children can move here.
Phase 2 is the construction of the community training center, the office building and the guard room.
Phase 3 is the construction of the volunteer house, the manager's house and the guesthouse.
Phase 4 is the construction of the shade and the shop.

Wilde Ganzen

Together with Wilde Ganzen we have almost raised the money for phase 1 to make The Kiota Dream come true. We bought the piece of land in September 2021. The fence has been installed. We're now busy with fundraising for the family homes and... The water pump, watertower and watertank belonging with the borehole. That last one was unforseen as we expected we could pump water from the nearby river. Unfortunately this isn't possible.

As long as we don't have water, we can't start phase 1...
